1. Get rid of the dark circles under your eyes
30 minutes: Those pesky under-eye dark circles are bluish in color, so to cover it up you need to use a concealer that has more red in color (something in the peachy/coral tones). After you have applied that under your eyes, apply your normal concealer that should be 1 to 2 shades lighter than your base foundation color. Remember that too much makeup can get into the fine lines on your skin and actually make them more noticeable so use a light makeup and go easy.
30 days: Get 8 hours of sleep consistently. During sleep, your body goes through cell regeneration and rejuvenation, so this time is important. So put Project Runway on your DVR to watch the next day and get your beauty rest instead.
2. Raise those girls up so they look perky and proud!
30 minutes: Your bust should sit halfway between your shoulder and your elbow. If that is not the case, then you are most likely suffering from a case of the drabs. Tighten your bra straps for instant lift. If the straps are digging into you or the back of your bra is riding up higher than the sides, then get thee to a lingerie store where experts can measure you for a better fitting bra. Also, see below for the secret to calculating your bra size.
30 days: Most women are wearing the wrong bra size. Follow these instructions and you are sure to learn your proper size. When you calculate the appropriate size I guarantee that you will deny up and down Main Street that it is your size. But it is!
Take your under-bust measurement. Your under-bust is the area around your ribcage right under your bust. Take your bust measurement, which should be taken across the midsection of your bust. Once you have those numbers, subtract the under-bust measurement from the bust measurement. That number will dictate your cup size. For example, if your under-bust is 32 inches and your bust is 37 inches, then there is a 5 inch difference between the two. Starting with the A cup, count 5 cup sizes: A, B, C, D, DD. In this case, you would be a 32DD. You are shaking your head in denial right now. But go try on some 32DDs and you will see that I am right! Those girls will look freaking AMAZING in your new bra.
30 minutes: There are a few things you can do here, but wearing a turtleneck is NOT one of them. Turtleneck sweaters are not a fashion trend right now, so please stay away unless you want to look like Jan Brady. What you should do, however, is moisturize your neck, then make sure that any makeup you apply doesn’t create a line from your face to your neck. Be sure to blend well for an invisible transition. There is some controversy about what kind of necklaces to wear to look younger. Certainly wearing a long necklace with a focal piece will draw the eye away from your neck. On the other hand, shorter, chunky statement necklaces are in fashion right now and can make you look more youthful. Give both a shot and see what works best for you.
30 days: The skin on our necks is thin and gets thinner and looser as we get older, so it is important to get a moisturizer that has peptides for increased collagen production. Make sure your moisturizer has SPF in it for UV protection against premature skin aging.
30 minutes: Do an avocado face mask
1. Mash an avocado in a small bowl with 1 teaspoon of flaxseed oil and 1 tsp of honey.
2. Mix the ingredients together until creamy and spreadable
3. Spread the creamy mask over your face. Do this over a sink as it can be messy.
4. Allow the mask to work its magic for 15-20 minutes.
5. Rinse your face thoroughly with warm water.
30 days: Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, particularly those high in Vitamins, A, C, and E and those rich in antioxidants. Foods like avocados, oranges, berries, pomegranate, and fruits with high water content like melons are good options. Also, be sure to include almonds, foods rich in selenium like eggs and wheat germ, and foods with Omega-3 fatty acids as found in salmon and other cold water fish.
5. Keep well hydrated
30 minutes: Apply foundation sparingly and use creamy varieties (versus matte) to promote that dewy glow. Top off with a cream blush.
30 days: Be sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. To be more specific, you should drink half your weight (in ounces) of water each day. For example, if you are 150 pounds, then you should drink 75 ounces of water every day, which is just a hair more than 9 glasses.
30 minutes: Straighten up and put your shoulders back. Good posture engages your abdominal muscles, which keeps them strong. It also makes you look younger and thinner instantly.
30 days: Start a strength training regimen. As we age, we lose more and more muscle mass each year. Lack of muscle mass is what causes us to look saggy and lose the curves of our youth. We can maintain that muscle definition and those curves by strengthening and firming all of our muscle groups. Different types of yoga and Pilates are good choices, as well as more rigorous boot camp style training. The object is to do many varied types of strengthening exercises to keep your muscles “on their toes”, so they are constantly forced to react to new situations that you put them in.
